Bio:
Ruth Stanton was born and raised in Austin Texas in 1958. At a young age Ruth spent hours drawing, painting and creating, including an abstract piece which was exhibited at the Laguna Gloria art museum in Austin. Naturally she was drawn to the visual arts. Her interest was cultivated during her teenage years and further developed when she opted to take her bachelor’s degree in interior design. After completing her degree, Ruth moved to Dallas and immersed herself in the interior design industry.
In 1988, Ruth moved to Lafayette California where she continued her career, married and raised her family. She rekindled her passion for painting when enrolling in painting classes with her daughter as a mother/daughter activity. During this time, she joined the Lamorinda Art Alliance, painted on weekends while balancing work/family obligations and since then continues to attend painting classes at Marcy Wheeler Studio in Walnut Creek.
Recently retired, Ruth is painting full time and loving every moment she can spend on her art. Her subject matter is predominately based on an emotional connection to life experiences, whether that is painting her family, special events and beautiful places she has visited.
Artist Statement:
My art is about nature and people. As an artist, I strive to capture the beauty in the people and places I have experienced in my life. I consider my work a confluence of Impressionism and Bay Area Figurative Movement, whose paintings are real and semi-abstract at the same time.
Part of my creative process before I begin painting is to select images from my personal photographs that have a lasting impression on me. Whether it’s the quality of light, interesting shapes, colors, strong composition or an image which tells a story.
I try with every finished work to breathe life into my landscapes and portraitures with the hope people will view my art as uplifting and joyful.
